Upshift is an annual event put on by Amazon to better connect with their freight partner community. In 2024 over 200 freight partners and their guests, connected with and learned from Amazon’s internal teams. New product enhancements and program changes where announced, and the AFP ( Amazon Freight Partner )community was celebrated.
The Ask
Amazon needed someone to provide art direction and design support for an external agency producing presentations for both keynote and breakout sessions. The stakeholders consisted of high level Amazon department heads down to individual team managers, with an audience that included anyone in attendance. I was tasked with making sure these presentations all remained consistent to the event branding as well as maintained a design standard in line with the event.
The Insight
I accomplished this by leaning into clean on brand event executions where ever possible, and constantly reminding my team and myself that our clients often do not understand how to communicate a problem. Instead they can jump to solutions and specific executions. It can be our jobs to find the problem or pain point and really find the best solution rather than defaulting to what has worked in the past.
The Outcome
While art directing for event presentations and keynotes was a bit outside of my normal environmental and brand wheelhouse, I am happy to report that the event went off without a hitch, earning it a 98th percentile customer satisfaction score from the surveyed attendees. In Amazon terms, this was a bar-raising event.
